//TURKISH YOUNG WELDERS COMPETED TO REPRESENT TURKEY IN “WELD CUP 2013”

Young Generation Skilled Welders will represent Turkey in the “European Young Welder of the Year Contest” in September.

The “First Welding Skill Contest” organized by Gedik University and the National Education Directorate of Istanbul has finalized.

Students aged between 17- 23 competed in four categories namely; Electric Gas Welding, Metal Active Gas Welding, Tungsten Inert Gas Welding and Oxyacetylene Gas Welding. The students who were selected as number one received their awards from the officials of Gedik University and National Education Directorate on January 24, 2013. The winners and their teachers will represent Turkey in the “European Young Welder of the Year Contest” which will be organized by European Welding Federation (EWF) during the 66th General Assembly Meeting of the International Institute of Welding in Essen, Germany in September, 2013.

99 students from Vocational and Technical Education Schools of Istanbul, Sakarya, Bursa and Ankara who selected by the directorates competed in Istanbul between January 21 and January 24, 2013. Officials from the Governor’s Office, Ministry of National Education and local governments attended the award ceremony which was held on January 24.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Gedik University Hülya Gedik Sadıklar gave a speech during ceremony. She said “University-industry cooperation has a very important place in the foundational philosophty of Gedik University. Our most important objective in organizing this contest is to help people understand the importance of the welding occupation to the industry better and to increase the interests of youngsters towards this field and thereby encourage them to raise their knowledge and skills to higher levels. I wish success to those students of our who have demonstrated outstanding success in their categories and will represent Turkey in the “European Young Welder of the Year”. I believe that they will represent our country in the best possible way.

RESULTS of the CONTEST:

Electric Arc Welding:

Metal Active Gas Welding:

1.İhsan Yaman Gölcük Technical and Industrial. Vocation High School

2.Murat Elçiçek İnönü Technical and Industrial Vocation High School

3.Mesut Can Kıraç Istanbul Stock Exchange Technical and Vocational High School

Tungsten Inert Gas Welding:

1.Muhammet AYBAŞ İzmit Technical and Industrial Vocation High School

2.Gökhan Volkan Şensoy İnönü Technical and Industrial Vocation High School

3.İbrahim Bal 75th Year Multi-Program High School

Oxyacetylene Gas Welding:

1.Ramazan Zandolu Fatih Technical and Industrial Vocation High School

2.Alihan İşler Pendik Seamanship Anatolia Vocation High School

3.İsmail Şenkal Haydarpaşa Technical and Industrial Vocation High School

Those students who were ranked in the top three in each category will receive 50% scholarship provided that they continue their education at Gedik University. The students who came in first in each category and their consultant teachers received laptop computers.

Schools were also awarded based on the success of the students who represented them at the contest. According to this criterion, the top 3 schools were the following:

1. İnönü Technical and Industrial Vocation High School came in first.

2. Küçükçekmece Vocational Education Center came in second.

3. Haydarpaşa Technical and Industrial Vocation High School came in third.
