Honorary chairman late Halil Kaya Gedik has been awarded by Walter Erström Prize in 2013.
International Institute of Welding (IIW)’ s 66th annual board meeting took place on Sept. 11-17th, 2013 in Essen / Germany with the participation of 720 members. These one-week periods constitute a real opportunity for various technical committees in which expert delegates from all over the world present and share new developments in training and certification activities such as International Welding Engineering and Inspectorship.
During the opening ceremony of this IIW board meeting that used to take place within the last 66 years; experts and delegates from senior member institutions and countries witnessed a novelty:
During the ceremony; Turkish delegation awarded the “Halil Kaya Gedik Memorial Prize” to Japanese scholar Mr. Yamamoto who had been elected from among the most outstanding experts with highest contributions to the fields of Welding Science, Technology and Training.
Within the whole IIW history; this one is the first international prize awarded by Turkey in the fields of welding science and technology.
Again; Walter Erström Prize that had been regularly awarded by the Swedish delegation under the framework of IIW for a long time; has been conferred on late Halil Kaya Gedik in memory of his exceptional contributions to the advancement of welding field. Gedik Education and Social Aids Foundation (GEV) was another subject of compliments due to its successful host role and organization for over 900 participants during the 63rd Board Meeting in İstanbul in 2010.
This exceptional international prize has been awarded to Mrs. Hülya Gedik on behalf and in memory of late Halil Kaya Gedik.
